Mr. Buenaventura is an experienced local and international lawyer with key industry focus. He has advised and represented top domestic and multinational corporations from different jurisdictions, including Fortune 500 corporations, in different industries (including mining, power, telecommunications, technology, construction and engineering, airlines, maritime and shipping, manufacturing, banking, investments, hotels, entertainment) under Baker & McKenzie’s global network in its Litigation and Arbitration Group over a period of 25 years. He was head of the Transportation, Logistics and Telecommunications Industry Group in Manila, and was also actively involved as member of Baker & McKenzie’s global and regional Korea Focus Group, Energy, Minerals and Infrastructure (EMI) Industry Group, Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group, Information Technology and Communications Industry Group, Pharmaceuticals Industry Group, Trade and Commerce Industry Group and Sports and Entertainment Group. He was lead counsel in most complex cases handled by Quisumbing Torres, including a global class action in multiple suits in Mindanao, Sanctions Proceedings before the World Bank, and many commercial/corporate, civil, criminal, and administrative disputes, in all court levels and relevant agencies. 


Mr. Buenaventura has been appointed as arbitrator and chairman of arbitral tribunals in commercial arbitrations in the Philippines. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (a London-based international organization for arbitrators), a Member of the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration, a member of the Philippine Institute of Arbitrators, and has completed the ICC Masterclass for Arbitrators of the ICC World Business Law. He was Editor-in-Chief of Baker & McKenzie’s Asia Pacific International Litigation and Arbitration Newsletter, and Editor of the Asia-Pacific section of Baker & McKenzie’s Arbitration Yearbook, both of which have global circulations, as well as Editor-in-Chief of the Quisumbing Torres Law Reporter (Survey and Digests of the Latest Philippine Laws and Jurisprudence). He was also a columnist of BusinessWorld under the weekly column “Power of Attorney.” 


Mr. Buenaventura has extensive experience in public, government and political affairs. Before engaging in law practice, he was an Economist of the National Economic and Development Authority and Technical Assistant to the Office of the Speaker, Batasang Pambansa (Philippine National Assembly). He was also a Provincial Board Member of the Province of Oriental Mindoro; Deputy Legal Counsel, Presidential Assistant on Legislative Affairs, National Director and Special Adviser on Constitutional Reforms of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, and Legal Adviser to the Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Justice.
